Facial Trauma

Facial Trauma

Oral and Maxiollofacial Surgeons are highly trained specialists in Facial trauma.  Facial trauma not only includes the upper and lower jaws, but all the surrounding facial structure.  Injuries may be a simple laceration to multiple facial fractures.  A common injury that we see is someone who has had a tooth knocked out or almost knocked outTime is very critical in saving a tooth that has been knocked out.  If the tooth can be repositioned within thirty minutes it has a much better chance of survival.  If you or someone you know has a tooth knocked out, gently rinse the tooth in warm water then if possible place the tooth back in the socket.  If you can, keep the tooth in your mouth or a glass of milk and contact a dentist immediately.  Your dentist or oral surgeon can reposition the tooth and splint it in place.  The sooner it is done the greater the chance of saving the tooth.  If you suspect that you have a broken jaw, contact us so that the appropiate x-ray may be taken.  It is less expensive to be seen at our office than the emergency room.
